9/20/09 - Sarah in her old Shorts and Hello Kitty Shirt pushing a chair around in the kitchen. I got her out of her dresses and into a new pair of pull up pants and something comfortable for as long as she would keep it on. Later we found the shirt in the trash can, shorts in the spare bedroom and still can't locate the pink hair piece. Still looking. She was also chasing and playing with the kitty and I got a bit of video and at least a couple of cute pictures which didn't involve the back of her head or her back-side. LLO'C

We didn't do too much on her birthday since she had a doctor's appointment. Her good health, a picnic in the shade at the park and a walk around the hospital was enough. She got a book from her doctor and Jennifer which she used in her school reading for homework. She has all of her OT and PT toys and as soon as James helps me tighten the two loose nuts on the handle bars which flip down and forward and the forks which turn the tire in awkward directions I will feel safe to strap her on to ride. Weather's getting nicer and we can go out in her gait trainer and her three wheeler and her bicycle and teach her to ride. This is the kind of exercise that her legs need to keep her muscles working in her legs and to "train her brain" to re-grow the neural-paths that were damaged in the infant trauma that she suffered. She's doing great and doesn't need special orthotics, but for ankle support, the doctor suggested high-top tennis shoes, hiking boots or similar. She's grown and is in need of things and we just need to get things going again. LLO'C

Sarah got her new wheelchair in June 2009 to be able to get on and off the bus without trouble and back and forth to classes and around campus and other places without problems and to make good time. It has her name and a surrey top and has a third wheel on the back. The chair also has a nice large plastic tray that Lucy Matte wanted me to send to school to keep her in the chair in class so she would focus on her work and not to get distracted and try to climb out and to go all over the classroom. The tray stays at school and they told me to not send her bag with extra pants and shirt and change of pull-ups, ointment and wipes, and the holder for her plastic cup with her breakfast drink with nutrients in it at the apartment as well as to leave the surrey top off the wheelchair and to leave it here as well. We're up early and although she's tired, she's ready to go to school and perks up when she starts to get on the bus and her face lights up when she leaves and when she comes back to the house. She knows that she's very much loved because I stay outside and watch her until the bus leaves in the morning and she sees me and knows I'm there. This is important to me. LLO'C

Sarah had a smaller pair of these boots that she loved and I got another pair while I could still find them at Target. These have a small heel, but she does great getting around in them. They have a bit of ankle support and match all of her pink and pastel clothes and especially the little cream colored and pink jersey-type shirt with the puppy dog face and confetti in lime, dk pink and lt. pink with rhinestones and two pom-poms. I believe I took some pictures of her wearing this and will try to put the entire outfit together and let her take some pictures. I would like to be able to let her wear her things without making her look like she's trying to be "better" than anyone and I hope that she's accepted for who she is. LLO'C

We somehow lost the hammer for the peg bench that I got her to use the toy to learn dexterity and the difference in colors and ratios. There are many uses for this toy and I need to find something that can substitute for the mallet. She threw it around the cat's dishes, but it may have gotten thrown away. I hope not. She's looking at her pink pom-pom boots that I got for her with the pink fur that she loves so much. I washed the pair that she's out-grown and am making a donation box so we can make sure that they go to a family in need. When I had them on the tub drying, she kept trying to bring them in the living-room and trying to put them on her feet, but I had no way to get them on her, so I had to pull out the new ones and we took these pictures when she had them on. I have her up pulling up on the stove and standing on the heels which is a feat within itself. We've worked so hard just to get to this point and now I don't feel like regressing. LLO'C

I didn't realize that they were still blooming, but I still had a few late blooming canna lillies in the garden even after I believed that all of them had stopped blooming. The hibiscus across from us that took all of the beautiful pictures has a type of ash-colored mold on the branches that's very white and the leaves have a black color and are doing horrible on the side that faces the swimming pool and are surviving on the side facing the brick wall. I don't know what's happening to that one. LLO'C

These are some of the canna lillies along the walkway in front of apartment 59 at our apartments. These are the orange variety; however I don't know the exact genus and species and "name" for each individual one that was planted. They are all very nice looking and have an exotic appeal that they lend to the exterior color of the complex to give it a bit more flair without giving more work than necessary for everyone who has to keep the grounds. Not sure what the breed of decorative palm is, but the complex bought four pretty fan-type palms and put in planters in the terra-cotta tiled hallway with the old-style Spanish Cathedral type chandelier in the ceiling. They also got three wood and iron benches that look really nice and have re-painted the mailboxes as well as re-finished the paneling with varnish and put time and a lot of effort into making the place look clean and nice. The palms are starting to look a bit brownish for some reason, however and may have to be planted around the court-yard. The one in front of apartment #61 looks exceptional and has thrived since I last took a picture of it and these may fare just as well outside in a similar area, but more filtered sunlight. LLO'C

Early morning, Sarah and I usually get out before daylight depending on the morning. I try not to get her out too early because she has to sit strapped in her chair and it's uncomfortable, but I try to get her up early enough to drink her breakfast drink if she'll have it. She still needs to eat breakfast and lunch at school and have Pedia-Sure with that because not every morning will she drink her breakfast drink and often has it when she hits the door, I unstrap her and she makes a line to the refrigerator to get her plastic cup with the drink and finishes it after her bus ride home, so she gets her total nutrition in the evenings sometime. It's ok as long as she gets it for her neurological nutrition and it WORKS!!! We didn't have any shoes that fit her to dress her in one of her cute dresses and for some reason, the only pair of stockings that she had were tiny and I don't know what happened to the rest - they seemed to have "just disappeared". I looked in the closet and wanted to get nice pictures and figured that they would just have to take cute pictures in what I put her in and put her in her little yellow flower outfit and matching sweater. She looked really cute. Just plain white tennis shoes and a matching hair bow. She was tired this morning, but perked up right as the bus got there to pick her up. Every one else was wearing school uniforms and she got one awkward look from someone, but I really didn't care because if I was going to have any nice pictures, I felt that I had the right to put her in something cute without having to make it look like I was trying to make her any better or worse than anyone else's kids. Lord knows how much she's been through and how hard we had to struggle just to survive when we made it over to Houston and ended up with one tragedy after another after another after another and no one had to live our life. I didn't and still don't treat other people that way. I just hope that she got better pictures this year than last and that James has the money to get them.

August 28th. Sarah's first Day of School at Steven's Elementary. She was waiting for the bus outside with her two friends, Jaime and Felipe' and was in her new wheelchair. She had her breakfast drink and pink bag and was all ready for her new bus driver and a new year. Sarah got off the bus with a new hair-do. The driver told me that her hair ribbon broke and I guess they had to throw it away. They braided her hair with 6 rubber bands to keep it out of her eyes. I had to get a picture of her before she got un-dressed from school and got into the bath tub for the evening to get ready for the next day - which was Friday. She was trying to get herself undressed and get things out of her closet herself in her own independence; which has seemed to thrive lately. I can never tell if it's a good thing or a bad one. Often you turn around and find things in total disarray and other times she's astounded you, so you don't know whether to praise her or to teach her to not do something. LLO'C

T.C. hanging out on the bed not knowing what the heck is going on while Sarah is getting herself out of her pants trying to get me to change her and I have getting her totally undressed on my mind, contrary to her beliefs and to get her into the bath tub to get her clean and ready for Friday and the weekend. This is the dress that Sarah got to wear to Paul's house this past Christmas 2008, but she fell asleep on the floor before we got to eat and even before we got to get any pictures of her. We really didn't have any presents and no one else had a tree, so it wasn't that festive for a kid's world, so I just didn't get a chance to take any pictures then. Even though we had school picture day, I wanted to get some pictures of Sarah in her cute dresses being that we never go anywhere that we can wear them and she's outgrown her shoes that go with them and for some reason, her stockings that went with them and fit have all just "disappeared". I have been taking what I can and will have to do some photo-editing of the originals and use a super-imposed back-ground being that I don't have a nice background and you see the condition of our walls with the old flat paint that the apartment was originally painted with when we got here. Next time I hope they use semi-gloss due to the resiliency and hopefully it won't get so dirty and hard to clean. I tried to get a few pictures over the weekend as I could, when Sarah would either pose or stay still. I had a ton of things to do and as I got them done things stacked up in other areas, but I managed to get some pictures to work with and will hopefully get more later. People often look at what we have and think that we have more than they do and that's not the case. Sarah was ordered by a medical doctor for OT and PT due to a brain injury and this has been the case since 2003. I've been doing the best that I can to take care of her and give her what she needs since that time at the cost of a great deal of my life, but she's my child and is worth it, even through times that I would have never imagined seeing myself living through with her just praying that things got better, but waiting and waiting and waiting. Anyway, Saturday evening I made pancakes, sausage and scrambled eggs for everyone. The meal came out nice. I had a huge plate of left overs which I made. LLO'C
